My world

[Edmonton, Alberta]
Song of the day:
  • Kaki King - Kewpie Station

  • (To start this off, holy EFF does everyone have to out and look up songs/videos of this girl playing guitar. You have no idea. Just do it. Send me money as a thank you later.)

    My Audition:
(Most of you have heard this story before, so feel free to skim this post. And it's also probably word-for-word how I told it to you, so shut-up-I-hate-you).
So I wasn't really nervous the morning on the day; I was, however, supremely prepared. I had my song down, I did my monologues enough to know exactly what I wanted, and I knew there was noting more I could do to prepare for my dancing or my ear training/music theory.

And so the day went: monologues, song, short ear training, interview (all in one), dance, more ear training, music theory test.

Longer story shorter: I blew my song. And I don't mean 'it wan't the best I've done it'. It was 'Oh my holy eff, get me out of this room'. Different key for starters, different accompaniment for fun, and forgetting the words just to top it all off. But I didn't stop. I smiled, I powered through it, I finished on the root note. I put it behind me.

The rest of the day: effin great. I was the last out of the room, so after I set my paper down on the instructor's table, I asked him to mark it for me. (There were a couple of questions that were bugging me, and I just wanted to know the right answers). Anyway, he marked it and I got 100%. So THAT was a huge bonus.

Oh ya, and during the interview, I told them I wanted to see the show tonight but it was sold out. So the head of the program told me in no uncertain terms "Just come by tonight" and the rest of the audition board nodded in confirmation.

So we did. I got to watch 42nd Street for free, and it was awesomely awesome. The first year guys got HUGE stage time in it, it was almost exclusively tap dancing (which I am SO SUPREMELY jealous that I can't do. Ah well. Next year. *Fingers crossed*)

Ya, basically I'm content with my choices so far. I am glad that I didn't audition for theatre school directly out of highschool because I feel I am so much more experienced now. I've done WestSide Story, I did an actual PLAY last year, and of course my most awesomest job that I have right now is just so much performance experience it's stupid. Basically, I've just experienced theatre outside the walls of Marion Graham Collegiate, which is exactly what I needed.

And for Eli and Balz-athon, I love you guys to death, but you have no idea how much I wanted to be on that stage last night. And on stage when I was watching Les Mis. And Copacabana. And Candide. And, and, and....

It's just what I've got to do.

And as for Andrew's advice, I couldn't have come up with a more perfect way to put me in a great mood. I love you man. I'm sure our paths will cross. Tell you what: when you're filming a movie in the Big Apple, pop on by Broadway and see me in my new show.
