Happy Easter

[Current song: This Photograph is Proof (I know you know) - Taking Back Sunday]

So I was spending my Friday off on Whyte Avenue with Leah. We shopped (which I don't normally do a lot) and had a Greek lunch, and walked everywhere due to the beautiful weather. Basically, a great day.

But while we were walking around, there was a long train of people walking, some carrying giant crosses and most wearing shirts that said something to the effect of 'Walk for Christ' or 'Christ walk' or something.

And it occured to me that most people on Whyte Avenue are just watching these 100-odd people walk past, and I'd like to say something to them. Something like a simple 'Happy Easter'.

Now, is it entirely bad etiquette to wish someone that is dragging a giant cross down an essentially 'sinful' street, a Happy Easter on Good Friday? I debated posing the question to one of the marchers, with the intent that if all goes well, to pass along the wish to everyone else in the line.

With a very wide-eyed Leah on my arm, I chose to not embarrass her, and kept on our day.

For those of you less destined to Hell than I, please feel free to bring insight into this discussion by way of comments.

they did that here in Stoon too, but they did it right in front of the mall and walked down 21st street and were singing hymns and junk. I had forgot my insulin in my van so I ran to get that and as I made my way back to the mall, they started walking in ym direction totally filling the street and sidewalks with a police escort. I had a black hoodie on with my hood up and I was walking back through the crowd with my head down cuz I hadn't had coffee yet and don't smile till I do. The crowd would split arond me and i bet if it was shot from above, it would be beautiful heathen(spelling?) imagery and I probably looked like the anti-christ....anyway, I have no idea on whether is it kosher or not to say happy easter on good friday to cross bearing fundamentalists

You should have handed them chocolate...

I love religion and I am trying my best to understand it. Yesterday in the car on the way back from Calgary I flooded Erika (a major Christian) with questions, trying to find some explanations. I dunno if this really answers your questions or gives insight to your querie but she told me that the reason Christians try so hard to spread the word of God, etc. is because they want you to go to heaven too. Made sense to me. But I know that every religion is different. You could probably say Happy Easter to a Christian, but it depends on the religion of the cross bearing God-aholics.

well, easter is a happy time for them, isn't it? isn't that when Jesus came back? that's happy. last supper and crucifiction = not happy...but easter was happy. it's a celebration, i'm pretty sure, so i think it would have been ok to say happy easter. mind you, this is coming from a person of the Jewish persuasion...but it's a chocolate - bunny - time - yay - Jesus - is - back holiday as far as i know. mind you, if i had seen people walking towards me dragging crosses, i probably would have run the other way. but that's because i'm easily frightened.
love you!

I'm gonna go with "It would've been ok, and even a nice gesture."
